These copy-and-paste letters are Unicode mathematical symbols, not a font. Screen readers may read them one symbol at a time, some apps and websites strip or replace them, and search engines will not match them to plain words. Do not use them for anything people must be able to search, read aloud or read with assistive technology, such as names on forms, email subjects or important instructions. For a real font, use the preview and PNG below.

Preview in a real blackletter font

This panel uses an actual font (UnifrakturMaguntia), so it is ordinary text that search, translation and screen readers handle normally. Use it for images, signs and prints.

Gothic Text Generator

Gothic to normal text

Paste text written in any of this site’s gothic or script letters. Letters and bold digits become plain A–Z and 0–9; everything else stays as it is.

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is not uploaded or saved. The copy-and-paste styles are Unicode symbols and the image uses a bundled blackletter font; neither needs an account.

How to use the generator

Type or paste text in the box. Each card shows your words in one style, and Copy puts that card on your clipboard, ready to paste into a bio, a caption, a game name or a chat.

  • Gothic Fraktur and bold Fraktur are the two core styles. Bold is easier to read at small sizes.
  • The cross, dagger and Maltese cross cards add a symbol on each side of every line.
  • Spaced-out puts a space between letters and three between words.
  • Numbers: keep them as typed, or switch to bold digits. Unicode has no Fraktur digits, so bold is the closest match.

Two kinds of gothic text

The cards above are Unicode letters. They paste anywhere that supports them, but they are symbols that only look like a font, and every device draws them with its own system font.

The preview and PNG below use a real blackletter font. There the text stays plain text underneath, so it prints, scales and reads aloud normally. Use the cards to paste, and the preview to make an image, sign or print.

When not to use copy-and-paste gothic

Screen readers can read these symbols one at a time or skip them. Some apps, forms and websites strip or replace them, and search will not match them to normal words. Avoid them for names on forms, email subjects, anything people must be able to search, and any message that must be understood by everyone.

Gothic, Old English, Fraktur and blackletter

These names usually point to the same look: angular, dense letters from medieval writing. Blackletter is the umbrella term, and Fraktur is one blackletter style, the German form that became the most common there by the mid-16th century. β€œGothic” and β€œOld English” are popular names for it, and β€œOld English” does not mean the Old English language.

Alphabets and digits

The letters come from the Unicode block of mathematical alphanumeric symbols. It contains Fraktur and bold Fraktur for capital and small A to Z, but no digits in those styles, so numbers stay as typed or turn bold.

A few helpful answers

Before you begin.

Is gothic text a font?

The copy-and-paste styles are not. They are Unicode mathematical symbols that look like gothic lettering. The preview and PNG use an actual blackletter font.

Where can I paste it?

Most social bios, captions, chats and documents show it, but support varies. Some apps and websites strip or replace the symbols, so test before you commit.

Can screen readers read gothic text?

Often poorly. They may read it letter by letter, say the symbol names, or skip it. Do not use it for anything that must be accessible.

Why are the numbers not gothic?

Unicode has no Fraktur or script digits. You can keep numbers as typed or switch to bold digits.

Is Old English the same as gothic?

As font names, yes: both usually mean blackletter. The Old English language is a different thing, and this site only changes how text looks.

Can I turn gothic text back into plain text?

Yes. The Gothic to normal text box on the home page, and on the Fraktur page, converts these letters and bold digits back.

Can I use the PNG commercially?

The image is your own text drawn in UnifrakturMaguntia, which is licensed under the SIL Open Font License. Check the license text if you plan to redistribute the font itself.

Is my text saved?

No. Everything happens in your browser, and the page does not upload what you type.
